Hooked on Crochet

We spent the whole weekend harvesting olives again and on Saturday night we had our first sample of the new oil from the olives we harvested last weekend. We toasted bread on the fire, added a smidge of garlic and salt and then drizzled it with olive oil. Buonissimo!

Despite being so busy the past few weeks I've still managed to fit in some crafty time. My mother-in-law has been teaching me how to crochet. At first it seemed like the most impossible thing. I tried to copy my mother-in-law's quick, neat turns of the hook but my fingers lacked any kind of coordination. However, once I decide I'm going to do something I don't give up until I succeed. So, I spent a whole evening in battle with the crochet hook and finally I got the hang of it. And now I'm hooked! Every spare minute I get my work out and do a few more rounds, I've even been dreaming of crochet!
I've spent hours looking online for patterns of things I can crochet. The only trouble is, since my mother-in-law taught me I now know how to crochet in Italian and these English patterns are all Greek to me!
Have a nice week x x

Hi Sarah Elizabeth,
The first photo looks so great! And it's so nice to have someone who can teach you how to do it, I know it but to use a pattern is more challenging for me. Looking forward to what you will make more. Byebye!

Nice! I could never do that... I'm so not a crafty person. Good job!

I used to crochet when I was a little girl. I wonder if I still know how to do it.

The crochet items look lovely, but the photos are great too! Good camera work. Especially that first one. Good subject placement. And one day, I'm going to come steal a bunch of that olive oil. I had fresh pressed in Napa Valley this summer and there is nothing like it.

I would like to learn to crochet and knit. I should make it a goal for the year 2011...something new to learn. I wish my Nan was alive to teach me. When I was younger I had no interest in her teaching me. :( Still...there is hope and a chance. Now to find the right teacher!

My granny taught me to knit when I was young but I can barely remember how now, and certainly not how to start or finish!

Well done for getting the hang of crocheting. It's a useful skill to be handy, and you're never without something to do. Idle hands etc... ;)

That just made me swoon! I was just in Italy this september and it was amazing :)

I used to crochet back in high school for home economics class. I'm sure I can still do one. The weird thing is I actually don't understand how to read patterns so what I used to do was freestyle. Of course it didn't turn out great. They end up crumpled...lol
