Since my last post a lot of work has been going on in the house. These pictures were actually just taken a day or so after the last ones. Our builders are pretty hard workers and managed to put in all the new ceiling beams in just a day despite it being 38°C outside.
The room in the picture below will be our utility room.

These are the old oak beams which we had to remove. They can't be reused as beams but we will cut them up and use the wood for other things, possibly a kitchen worktop or even the stairs. Any ideas?

Wow, such a lot of work! I love that the beams and so on you can't used will be repurposed elsewhere in your home.
P.S And re: your comment on my post about 'mummy fashion' I know exactly what you mean about having limited options of what to wear because of breastfeeding, that's one of my main problems too :)

Thanks Sarah B. I've always been inspired by Grand Designs and although our project isn't quite as ambitious as some it is exciting all the same. x
We're trying as much as possible to reuse the original materials. I'd like to use the beams to make a kitchen work top but not sure how practical or durable wood is. What do you think?

How about using the old beams to make an outside picnic table? I think having outside lunches with your little beauty on a warm day would be fun. I also thought the beams might be neat to use as non-weight bearing beams in your house. Strictly just for looks and to add a touch of sentimental appeal since they are the original from the house. Just my thoughts. Your home will look fantastic when its finished.
A picnic table is a really great idea. We're using some of the old roof tiles to make a patio are so a table made out of the old beams would be perfect. Thanks for the suggestion x x
Another step forward, it is so exciting as the renovation progresses isn't it. We miss our renovation work now it is finished!
